Hucknall Town have been frozen in fifth place as their promotion push goes on hold while football is suspended due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The Yellows were held 2-2 at West Bridgford on Saturday.

“It's disappointing but it is what it is and there's nothing we can do about it at all,” said manager Andy Graves.

“You have to take the experts' advice - right or wrong.

“We were already planning for Wednesday night's game with Gedling. But as soon as we heard the season was postponed until 4th April I sent a text out to the lads.

“We will reconvene if we can on Wednesday, 1st April and see if everybody is fit and in the meantime try to keep fit as best we can. Everybody else will be in the same boat.

“It's all right saying we can start things again but if you have not got the players you can't anyway.

“No one here has the virus right now, though one player has stayed away as his partner has a sniffle. We'll keep a close eye on it.

“No one knows what will happen now 100 per cent. I hope they will try to finish the season, even if there is a delay.

“But football is not the most important thing at the moment – people's jobs and health are more important.”

Having seen an early lead wiped out by half-time and then conceding a late second, Graves was pleased to see his side pull a point out of the fire.

“Okay the others around us won but we put a bit more daylight between us and sixth place,” he said.

“If you had said we'd have been fifth at this stage of the season in the summer everyone would have happy.

“It as a tough, physical game and we got a few knocks. I don't think the referee was strong enough.

“It was probably a blessing Wednesday was called off as one or two would not have played.

“We started well enough and Liam Hearn scored on his second debut.

“We looked fine until a dummy on their move caught us out and we didn't track the man that was running from midfield into the box.

“We looked downhearted at half-time, but we were a lot better second half and had chances.

“But it was unfortunate that a long punt downfield just skimmed off Jordan's head and fell for their striker.

“That would probably have killed a lot of teams but fair play to the lads, they knuckled down, we made a couple of changes and equalised with a fantastic volley from Jamie, which was deserved.”

He added; “Bridgford had their tactics right and were not in a hurry to speed the game up. We are better when we're playing at a tempo.

“They were possibly the best footballing side we'd faced at home, but on Saturday they added some physicality too.”
