Bulwell nuns to go on epic walk to save their convent from the bulldozers

The sisters of the Poor Clare Colettinnes are walking 107 miles from their Bulwell convent to the National Marian Shrine of Our Lady in Walsingham in East Anglia.
They are taking on the challenge in order save their convent from being demolished due the poor state of repair it is in.

Hide AdAmong the problems are woodworm in the floor boards, holes in the roof, showers that at are unuseable due to water coming through the ceiling, rusted guttering and pipes, cracked sewage pipes, disintegrating window frame and brick work that needs repointing.
Those are just a few of the problems facing the joyful band of sisters who ages range from 33 to 83 years old.
The sisters said: “We have been told by builders and architects that we need to do something and by health professionals that the house is unhealthy.
Now, they want to do their bit to help raise the money for the repairs but going from Nottingham to East Anglia the conventional way is impossible as they are an enclosed order of nuns, which means they are not allowed to leave their convent .

Hide AdFurther more, some of the sisters have great difficulty walking and even if they were allowed outside the convent walls, they would be subject to Covid restrictions.
The savvy sisters have thought of this, however, and will complete the 107-mile journey by walking around their convent garden.
