The average person in the UK throws out more than half of a loaf of bread every month because it’s not used in time, meaning one million slices of bread go in the bin every hour in Britain.
But Veolia, Nottinghamshire County Council’s waste and recycling contractors, says all is not lost for the humble loaf all as toast can be more than just a buttery breakfast choice.

Hide AdFor example, Veolia says bread can be kept for longer by putting it in the freezer and be used straight from frozen, while crusts and stale slices can be made into bread and butter pudding.
Lea Hawkes, Veolia general manager, said: "During lockdown many turned to baking, we’re encouraging Notts residents to continue this trend by reducing their food waste and loving their leftovers.”
