Director says standards will continue to be met
NHS England statistics show 86 procedures were halted in a three month period between July and September, compared to 45 in the same period last year.
But a spokesman for Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said the surge was a consequence of dealing with 1,140 more patients between July and September this year than the previous year.

Hide AdHe was also quick to dismiss speculation that the cancellations were a symptom of an accident and emergency department which was struggling to cope, as was the case at Colchester General Hospital during the same period.
But Ashfield MP, Gloria De Piero said the figure was unacceptable.
She added: “This is an absolutely miserable thing to happen to one person, let alone more than 80 and the fact that the numbers have almost doubled at King’s Mill is worrying.
“It is dreadful to think that people have faced the appalling anxiety of preparing for treatment only to be let down hours before surgery.”

Hide AdThe Trust spokesman added “The main reason for the increase relates to additional day case activity as a result of a national requirement to treat long waiting patients and the Trust is confident that this was an isolated occurrence.”
